Been a slow ride.

It’s been raining for weeks.

Every morning I’m waking up ready to go do my thing and the second we hit the road it starts to rain.

We got a new computer system up and running recently. That doesn’t mean much for me except my criminal history checks on some people will take longer then usual due to untested equipment.

Anyhow, a guy I’ve arrested a few times, nick named ‘Patches’ was reported to have been in an apartment complex that I’ve arrested him at before for ‘shooting at rival drug dealers’ and whatnot. You see, Patches used to live in that complex up until about 2 months ago. He’d been living there his entire life, selling drugs from his door step. He’d also been shot a few times. The first time it hit him in his eye, effectively removing it and forcing him to wear an eye patch. The second time was only three or so months ago, where he was shot in the leg with an AK47.

Patches is always armed, so I decided to head over to the complex. I was riding with Chocolate bear that day.

We got there and as soon as we started walking to his old apartment number, we saw him. He’d changed his patch to a set of shades, but its hard to miss a 6’3 skinny red skinned fellow you’ve arrested before.

We picked him up and arrested him for Trespass. Patches didn’t have a weapon on him today, but it got him out of whatever trouble he was going to start for the day.

About two hours later a shooting went out at a gas station. Someone shot into the station, hitting a guy in the leg and then fled in a blue 4 door. The person giving the bolo even gave the tag for the car. So we ran the tag and it came back to a Ford Contour.

We received additional information that the person was now headed west bound on a main street we happened to be rolling up too.

That’s when we saw the vehicle dukes of hazard style, fly by us.

Alrighty, there not gonna get away from us. Chocolate bear happened to have been driving that day and the sun had already set hours ago. Did I mention that when Chocolate bear drives, I say Jesus’s name at least 5 times an hour while bracing on the wall of the car? Yea, he drives a wee bit recklessly for my tastes.

Well, needless to say the car didn’t want to stop for, oh… 35 blocks?

Aviation was en route from the airport to offer some support and apparently even with me calling the chase on the air, no other units could get to us.

Finally, the bad guys decided to pull into a gas station and bail out of the car.

Well, the driver actually took the time to put his car into park before jumping out and running.

I really couldn’t say the same for Chocolate bear. In the fray of the slamming the car to a stop he’d forgotten to shift the gear one more over to the left, and had the car sitting in neutral. Now, neutral isn’t usually going to cause an accident but Mr. Bear wasn’t exactly fully stopped either.

So, Chocolate bear jumped out of the car and caught Bad guy number #1 about 30 feet from the car.

I on the other hand noticed our car, more exactly, my freshly washed car, slowly not stopping and about two full feet from hitting their car.

Screaming at Badguy #2 to get on the floor while pointing a not to clean Sig P226 at him, I was surprised he complied. Not only that, he even crossed his legs and put his hands behind his head.. Normally they just keep running, especially when they’re armed.. Hmph. My car was still rolling towards certain dent.

Next, I did what any sane person would do that didn’t want to checkout a loaner with roaches for the next two months while their car was being fixed…

I yelled at chocolate bear to put the car into park while I held my subject at gun point, laying on my back on the hood of my car with my feet pushing against their car, not in the best mood.

He ran over and put it in park just as it had about 3 inches more to go before it would make contact. Whew. We tossed the guys into our car and called a General investigations unit out. 2 Guns later, we arrested them and called it a night.

Early the next day I got a phone call saying that around 2AM, a group of guys from the city south of the one I work in, came up to the apartments looking for Patches and his friends (Pooh, Rambo and Midget). They usually all hang out together. Since Patches was in jail from our arrest that day, the other gang members fired 39 rounds of 7.62×39 (AK 47 rounds) at Pooh and Rambo. They both died. Midget managed to flee the scene.

I got into work at the story was all over the station. No one knew who these guys were, subjects or victims. The actual report had UK (Unknown) for each person..

So I called up homicide and gave them the names, DOBS and addresses of Pooh and Rambo. Then I told them were Midget hangs out and told them I’d find him. I also gave them his rental cars tags, infos and whatnot. The homicide detective didn’t even say Thanks.

Later that day I started doing some foot work. I know people in the apartments and hear things here and there from other sources.

Word out on the street is that Patches and his gang decided to rip off these other gang members earlier that day. They took a bunch of weed and cocaine. In retaliation, the other gang went the next step and killed Pooh and Rambo.

My SGT came up to me and said, “I don’t know whether to write you a commendation for life saving or a written reprimand for saving a shit bag. If you hadn’t arrested Patches, he’d be out of our hair and off the streets for good. Either way, homicide found the subjects of the shooting, you’re not going anywhere on their report.”

The rest of the day was spent avoiding the rain. We hung out in the ‘batcave’. The only building in our area that has a parking lot we can park in that has an over hang so we don’t get wet.

Aside from all of that, not much has gone on. I have a feeling the tides are going to change for the worst though, this has been too long of a calm.
