'Bombs' all over the place.
About three hours into our shift my partner and I decided to change the ‘box’ to an area at the south end of our district.
I was riding in Gary’s car for the day since I wasn’t feeling to up to speed.
After several minutes in the box we’d already spotted and stopped a good amount of vehicles, but nothing we were looking for so we’d cut them loose almost immediately.
Batman then got on the radio, “Hey, I got an acura over here and Imma stop it before that light”.
We found Batman about a block over and pulled up behind him as he initiated the traffic stop.
The Acura took a few seconds to stop and during those few seconds the rear passenger was all over the place, I suppose trying to hide something. The driver and passenger weren’t being still either. Hmm..
Gary took the stop on the main channel and we all got out.
Batman approached the driver while Gary approached passenger side. I was standing behind the car in case they tried to bail.
Just as my two squad mates started opening doors so we could talk to the occupants, the dispatcher came back over the air and advise the car was reported stolen and subject was possible armed.
No one had to tell me what we needed to do next, I drew my firearm pointing it at the interior of the car and moving to stand just behind Gary as to have a line of sight of all three occupants, especially the rear one that was hiding something somewhere.
Gary and Batman saw me taking point and started cuffing everyone.
Once we had them all seated outside of the car we started going through the car while my Sarge, who’d juts shown up, and Gary ‘eyeballed’ the subjects.
Batman and I were finding all sorts of receipts from pawn shops and other none sense. Even found a ziplock full of empty baggies normally filled with cocaine.
Thats around the time when Huff, the auto theft detective, showed up.
Huff wasn’t in a good mood today for whatever reason but he knew he still had a job to do. He said the driver was going regardless but he released the other two guys. No problemo.
After we wrapped that scene up we heard a call go out of several males loitering near a Camaro and Mustang armed with Shotguns, rifles and handguns.
Just our sort of call, excellent. Gary and I started heading that way and the new guy on the squad, the one who replaced Chocolate bear, we’ll call him Muscle, since thats the first thing you notice about him, went with us.
Upon arrival the two other road units that were dispatched arrived with us and we detained the whole crowd of people.
Muscle got out of his car screaming at people to have them sit on the floor. Not the best tactic to use but it worked. I walked up and told everyone to cross their legs and put their hands behind their heads, first person to move would have a very bad day.
They got the hint and my other units started doing the pat downs for weapons.
I walked up to the red mustang sitting in the middle of the street and saw a ‘bomb’ in the drivers side seat. Look like at least 19 baggies of Marijuana, about 35-40 grams. Excellent. Started going through detained peoples pockets for their keys. I found the guy whose alarm opened the mustang trunk and handed him off to the road unit who was handling the call. She was a moron. The road unit handling the call has been working in the district for at least a year and still had no idea how to do an arrest for Marijuana, let alone a Felony amount of it.
I tried explaining it to her and she didn’t get it. I offered to do it for her, she she no. Fine, no problem.
Muscle started cuffing a guy and I came over to help, we put him in the back of Muscles car and I asked Muscle what happened. He pulled out a ‘bomb’ with Cocaine and Marijuana in it and said the guy threw it to the floor when we rolled up. Awesome, he just got to the squad and he sort of needs to ‘prove’ himself so these types of arrests are what he needs to be doing.
He turned to me and said, “I don’t want this arrest, you want it”?
….
I told him, “Buddy, its your arrest man, you need the stats.”
He replied with, “I’m just going to let him go since I don’t want the arrest”
It was a Felony, he can’t let him go.
Gary walked up, having heard everything and said, “No, we’ll take it.” as he took the ‘bomb’ from Muscle and the body. We went to the station and booked the guy and impounded the property.
I wasn’t very impressed with this new guy or our other new guy we got about a month ago. Maybe they’re still warming up to what we do but I don’t see anything that they’ve done yet thats impressive.
The sarge and other members of the squad agree with me.
We’ll see how it goes.
