Took some time off.
So I had my Lasik procedure done on Monday.
I decided not to work an over-time detail the squad was working and it took everything I had to stay home. Granted, I had completely blurry vision and was exhausted but I do not like missing out on work.
The first week after a Lasik procedure you’re not supposed to do any physical activity as that could cause a wrinkle in the flaps created during the procedure.
I decided to take a second day off, just for good measure.
I stayed home Tuesday even though I could see somewhat better. My vision was still blurry but I was able to read large fonts and make out objects well enough to know what I was looking at.
So, I did what any red blooded American would do. I turned on the TV and started playing Final Fantasy 6.
Wednesday I decided I could work. I picked up my gun and was able to sight a target 25 yards away. I got dressed in my gear and headed to work.
I couldn’t read any vehicle Tags and was having trouble seeing past 50 yards clearly but I’m not one to sit at home and wallow if I can be at work doing what I do best.
Arriving at work my Sergeant was surprised to see me and I hopped into my partners squad car.
I had already told my Sarge that I wasn’t supposed to be doing any physical activity like running and I couldn’t get into any fights, so he told the entire squad to lay low for the day.
We went out and ate someplace cheap and decided to go hang out behind a church near the project housing so we’d at least be in the area in case something went out.
BEEPPPP!! ATTENTION ALL UNITS! BURGLARY IN PROGESS [ADDRESS 2 BLOCKS AWAY].
Awh crap. Alrighty, we jumped into our cars and headed over to the house.
Arriving we were around the front of the house and we got out of our cars, guns drawn.
ALL UNITS, BE ADVISED THE SUBJECTS ARE AT THE REAR OF THE ADDRESS!!!
…. my partner and I started running around the side of the house and upon reaching the rear porch we saw two people.
We took them into custody without much effort at all.
The road units handling the actual call showed up shortly after and we handed off everything to them to take care of.
We headed back to the spot we initially left and my Sarge called me over.
Sarge : “Hey, aren’t you not supposed to be doing any physical activity?”
Me : “Yeap.”
Sarge : “How long are you not supposed too?”
Me : “About a week the Doc said.”
Sarge : “Holiday or Comp?”
Me : What?
Sarge : “Do you want to take Holiday or Compensation time off for the week?”
I looked at him for a few seconds. My Sarge was telling me to basically go home and come back in a week..
Me : “I’ve got lots of Holiday time saved up, put me down for that. I’ll see you next week Sarge, thanks.”
My partner drove me back to the station and I drove at a snails pace back home.
I know I shouldn’t have gone to work and I should have initially taken that time off but my place is out on the streets arresting the bad guys.
I suppose I’ll just spend the next week at home, finishing up Final Fantasy 6 for the hundredth time and enjoy the miniature vacation.
Hopefully I have a speedy recovery.
